Unfortunately, this model won’t be offered in the U.S., as our car-buying comrades see shooting brakes as wagons, and wagons as old-fashioned and dull.

Nooooooooo

How is a shooting brake identified. I've seen people talk about the Callaway Corvette as a shooting brake I was getting the impression it was a 2 door sports car/roadster/coupe turned into a wagon back.

This really is just a wagon. Not saying it's a bad thing. Just trying to understand the differentiation.

There isn't one, its a shooting brake in the sense that Mercedes has convinced itself that a 4 door can be a coupe. Therefor, a 4 door coupe wagon is a shooting brake. A wagon being that which has side windows into the cargo area and more than 50% of said cargo area covered by roof (according to torch), and a shooting brake being a 2 door wagon.

You're right. This is a wagon, nothing else. Just like those 4 door BMW 6-series are sedans not coupes. It's marketing bull.

UGH those things piss me off (and this does now too, just needed to confirm it).

I did research on the coupe thing a ways back, the SAE declares that it can be a coupe if it under a certain cubic feet in the back seat even if it has 4 doors.

The BMW's in question do NOT meet that requirement. They are sedans.

Maybe they have info on the "shooting brake" classification.

I'm sick of this shit. Why does anyone need this? There's the C class wagon, E class wagon, CLS shooting brake, the new A class, even the R class. What the fuck use is this, to anyone?

Hmm. Mercedes-Benz and BMW both seem to have product lines that are jam-packed with every conceivable model.

I'd rather it not sold over here either, it' just another pointless edition to the ever expanding Mercedes range.

not American? Cause we would love one (okay we get the e-class wagon) of those here. The R class went away, but we don't get the C class wagon, or the A class.

From that perspective I totally understand it, it would be awesome. As a European though, I can't see the point as there's already too many variation on the same theme. The C and E class wagons have been around forever and sell very well... Who was screaming out for a C class wagon which was less practical, and i'm assuming a little more expensive? If they do want something like that, the new a A class hatchback is surely a better option all around.

Isn't this a n ugly 'stylish' A-class wagon and as such slotted below the C-class wagon?

In the UK, the A starts at £20k, C starts at £26k and the CLA starts at £24k, the wagons/shooting brakes i don't know the details. In that scheme of things, they're basically the same price by the time you choose your configuration.
